What is the purpose of the Janes Avenue Road Project?
This section of road was last resurfaced in 2010, and since 2015 extensive patching has been done to the road. The pavement structure is showing signs of failure and resurfacing the top layer of asphalt is no longer cost-effective. The Village of Woodridge has been awarded a federal grant for this project and is looking forward to rebuilding a roadway that will serve and benefit motorists for many years to come.
Where is the Janes Avenue Road Project taking place?
This project will take place on Janes Avenue from 75th Street to Spring Street near Janes Avenue Park.
What will the detour look like for this project?
Janes Avenue will be restricted from three lanes to one lane to provide a safe work zone. Starting at Spring Street, Northbound traffic will only be allowed down Janes Avenue. Side streets and driveways will have access to Janes Avenue, but they will only be permitted to turn Northbound towards 75th Street. Southbound Janes Avenue will be restricted starting at the driveway entrance closest to Dunkin’ Donuts south of 75th Street. A detour route will be posted that utilizes Woodward Avenue from 75th Street to 83rd Street for traffic wanting to head Southbound on Janes Avenue.
How long will this project take?
The Janes Avenue Road Project will begin on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 and will continue through the end of summer.
This project seems like it will take a long time. How was the timeline for this project determined?
This project has received a federal grant to help fund it with local Motor Fuel Tax funds. Because of the grant, this project is run through the State which then provides the number of working days needed to complete the project based on the scope of repairs. The contractor does believe it will be able to complete the work in a shorter timeframe, but the unknown amount of repairs to the earth subgrade and other items will be determining factors. This is an extensive and important project that will help build a roadway to serve and benefit motorists for many years to come.
This project includes 2.25 inches of asphalt surface being replaced, over 1.5 feet of roadway being removed (including asphalt pavement and the stone sub-base due to past base failures), and intermittent sidewalk and curb replacements.
I live on Janes Avenue, will I have access to my driveway?
The Contractor is to provide access to your driveway as much as possible during work operations with full access by the end of each work day. However, some exceptions will occur:
- When concrete curb or sidewalk is removed and replaced adjacent to your driveway, you may lose access to your driveway for up to seven days or more while work occurs and the concrete cures. The Contractor is instructed to deliver a notice 24 hours in advance if your driveway will be affected.
- When the asphalt roadway is being removed and replaced. Vehicular access to your driveway will provided once the bottom layers of asphalt are paved back.
If your driveway is inaccessible, arrangements have been made to allow overnight parking on your neighboring streets. You will not need to notify the Police Department for overnight parking on these nights.
The detour will still apply to residents with driveways along Janes Avenue:
Traffic will only be permitted to turn Northbound towards 75th Street.
I live off of a side street on Janes Avenue, will I still have access?
Yes, side streets will have access to Janes Avenue but you will only be permitted to turn Northbound towards 75th Street.
Who is completing the Janes Avenue Road Project?
Woodridge Public Works will be overseeing this project and K-Five Construction Corporation will be completing the roadway construction.
What does this project entail? What work is being completed?
The project scope includes various curb and sidewalk removal and the replacement and removal of asphalt roadway.
- On Janes Avenue from 75th Street to Charmingfare Drive, 2.25 inches of the asphalt surface will be replaced.
- On Janes Avenue From Charmingfare Drive to Spring Street, over 1.5 feet of roadway will be removed which includes the entire asphalt pavement and the stone sub-base due to past base failures. This roadway was recently resurfaced in 2010 and since 2015. Extensive pavement patching has been done on the surface to address pavement failures, but resurfacing the top layer of asphalt is no longer cost-effective.
- Intermittent sidewalks and curbs will be replaced throughout the road resurfacing limits
Why are there markings around my yard or driveway?
You are likely seeing markings around your yard or driveway that indicate work will be done near your property. Many of the flags are to help determine where there are important lines such as electric, communication, or gas. Intermittent sidewalks and curbs will be replaced throughout the road resurfacing limits as a part of this project.
Please note:
- When concrete curb or sidewalk is removed and replaced adjacent to your driveway, you may lose access to your driveway for up to seven days or more while work occurs and the concrete cures. The Contractor is instructed to deliver a notice 24 hours in advance if your driveway will be affected.
- When the asphalt roadway is being removed and replaced. Vehicular access to your driveway will provided once the bottom layers of asphalt are paved back.
- If your driveway is inaccessible, arrangements have been made to allow overnight parking on your neighboring streets. You will not need to notify the Police Department for overnight parking on these nights.
I live near this road project, will there be any delays to my garbage service, EMS, or school bus pickups?
There should not be any significant delays to public services. The Village has been in contact with School Districts, the Police Department, the Fire Department, the Park District, Groot, and other agencies located near the one-way traffic to help coordinate their activities during the project.
Will the timing of stop lights be changed during this time period to help handle the influx of bypass traffic?
Please be advised that 75th Street is DuPage County’s roadway, and the traffic signals at Woodridge Drive, Janes Avenue, and Woodward Avenue are under the County’s jurisdiction. These lights are interconnected to maintain consistent traffic flow between lights. The Village’s contractor will be taking over maintenance responsibility of the light at Janes Avenue and 75th Street due to the roadwork on Janes Avenue.
I have additional questions, who should I contact?
If you have any questions concerning this project, please contact the Department of Public Works at 630-719-4753, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
