The Village of Woodridge offers almost 34 miles of off-road, asphalt-paved paths. The paths link up with more than 100 miles of bikeways from surrounding communities that are used for recreational and commuter bicyclists.

In 1995, the Village initiated the bikeway study. The bikeway study identifies a long-term plan for the planning and construction of marked bikeway routes throughout the Village. In 1996, the Village had a total of 3.7 miles of bikeway. The study identifies approximately 21.7 miles of new bikeway, which would create a network of safe facilities throughout the Village's roadway network and open space. At the end of 1999, approximately 11.5 miles of bikeway has been constructed.

The goal of the bikeway construction is to provide an off road system of bikeways throughout the Village for recreational purposes, connection of Village facilities, parks, forest preserves, residential and commercial destinations, regional bikeway connections and alternative transportation mode.

The Village Bikeway Plan calls for two bike paths, totaling 2.5 miles, to be completed during 2000. First, the Commonwealth Edison Bikeway between 71st Street and 63rd Street in spring 2000. This 10-foot path will run along the center of the Commonwealth Edison property and connect the Woodridge Drive Bikeway with 63rd Street Park Bikeway. The Village also plans to construct the Woodridge Drive; 83rd Street and Janes Avenue bikeway in fall 2000.

The Village also has received funding for the NIGAS Bikeway, a 4.2 mile path evenly divided between Woodridge and Downers Grove and several bikeway connections between existing Woodridge bikeways. The Village plans to construct these bikeways in 2001/2002.
