| Purpose of the Plan |
|
Woodridge’s guide for growth is the Comprehensive Plan. It serves as a policy tool providing direction for future land use, development, transportation, community services and facilities, parks and recreation, utilities and other Village infrastructure planning and decision making. The Village is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan, which was last updated in 1995. The current Comprehensive Plan was prepared at a time when the Village was undergoing substantial annexation and development. The Plan addressed major growth issues, including how vacant lands were to be developed and the necessary transportation and community services needed to serve these areas. While the Village is still experiencing development and change today, we are largely a built out, mature community. Our issues, needs, and aspirations have evolved and changed since the Village completed its last Comprehensive Plan. Thus, the Plan update process will examine trends and accomplishments over the last several years and identify future goals and initiatives to address current needs and opportunities in the Village. Of particular interest will be the Village’s growing need to provide senior housing, to improve and redevelop existing properties and to secure open space for future Woodridge residents. If the ideas contained in the new Plan are to be realized, they must be grounded in community ideals and interests. We encourage all residents, businesses and stakeholders to become involved. A kick off meeting will be held on March 7th at the Park District Community Center and we welcome all to attend. If you cannot attend this meeting, there will be additional opportunities for your involvement, including community workshops, forums, open houses and surveys. Please watch for updates and opportunities for involvement in e-News, on WCTV Cable Channel 6, in the "Woodridge Weekly" section of The Reporter newspaper or on the Comp Plan Latest News and Upcoming Events page on this website.
