Crime Prevention
Is your home safe from residential burglaries? Although no home is exempt from possible burglaries, there are certain preventive measures we all can partake in to reduce the odds that our homes will be targets. If you have moved into a previously owned house or apartment, replace all the locks. Make sure all the locks to exterior doors are deadbolt locks. Trim your shrubbery and replace burned out lights to prevent hiding spots for burglars. Use indoor and outdoor lighting timers and if you go on vacation, have a neighbor or friend pick up your mail and newspapers.
DuPage County - Official site for emergency preparedness information. We all have a role in emergency preparedness. The Community Emergency Response Team(CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in the basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.
Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
The Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS) is a program in where a citizen can volunteer hours of service to the police department without promise, expectation or receipt of compensation for services rendered. This may include chaplains, persons providing administrative support, and interns.
