A Message from the Mayor - Reaffirming Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Dear Fellow Woodridge Residents:

Woodridge is a caring community with strong ties to our residents.  Recently, I was shocked and very saddened to learn that some residents received a hurtful, white supremacist/anti-Semitic leaflet that is extremely offensive and inconsistent with our community values.  Unfortunately, other neighboring Chicago-area communities have experienced similar incidents in recent weeks.

To be clear, as a community, we denounce the contents of those leaflets in the strongest possible terms. Woodridge does not tolerate racism in our community.  It is vital that our community always take a principled stand against racism and prejudices, wherever and whenever we encounter it.  There is no place for hatred in Woodridge.

The Woodridge Police Department continues to investigate the leaflets and takes this incident very seriously. If you have any information, please contact investigators at (630) 960-8998. The Police Department has an active partnership with residents to maintain a safe and welcoming community.

Growing up in Woodridge, there has always been a spirit of neighbors looking out for each other and respecting one another.  Currently, Woodridge is in the process of developing a community engagement initiative that will further embrace and celebrate our community’s diversity through conversation, fellowship, and respect.  More information will be forthcoming from the Village and myself on this important community initiative.

We encourage all residents to join us in our mission to continue to ensure that Woodridge remains a caring, diverse and respectful community.

Respectfully yours,

Gina Cunningham
Mayor
